Overview
Since 2016, Movendo’s mission has been to reduce carbon emissions by helping more people integrate movement and activity seamlessly into their daily routines and live more sustainably. Now, Movendo’s R&D is developing a minimum viable product (MVP) app, identifying markets and partnering with universities on large-scale research projects on health and human movement.
Technological convergence
Movendo’s founders, Jose Mantilla and Stephen Pelosi, were working as consultants on sustainability, urban regeneration and human movement projects for local and state governments when they had a lightbulb moment. Their work on transport, planning and environmental projects revealed that the more people walked, the more they could reduce their CO2 emissions and health risks from sedentary lifestyles. Rapid advances in geolocation, mobile sensors, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies were converging to create the potential for innovations to deliver ultra-personalised insights using big data.
Movendo invested in AI and ML research and development (R&D) as well as application programming interface technology and stack development kits to develop algorithms and software, and build test apps. Initially, Movendo experienced periods of uneven cash flow that slowed its R&D investment and innovation progress. Then, the business discovered Radium Advances and began accessing its R&D Tax Incentive (R&DTI) refund at regular intervals throughout the year.
Movendo Director Jose Mantilla says, “Radium Advances let us breathe easier and give us the certainty we need to plan our R&D investment and accelerate our innovation.”
More than money
It’s not only Radium Capital’s non-dilutionary funding that Movendo finds beneficial, but also the community and ecosystem support the company offers. Today, Movendo is partnering with universities on large-scale research projects on human movement and targeting new market opportunities and applications for its game-changing technology in Australia and internationally.
